Why do you think learning a language at university is the best time? First of all, it does not matter if you actually decide to study languages or take up a language course besides your main subject. Learning to speak a language while at university is so much easier than when you are at work later. You will never find the opportunities again to dedicate so much time to immerse yourself in a new language. You will learn your new language not only in your classes, but you will have the chance to meet up with other students from around the world on the campus to practice your language skills. Last, but not least, you have the opportunity to go abroad in the summer and use your new language. You will see how fast and easy it will be for you to improve your skills, which will be highly valued by your future employer, too! You will not only be able to speak another language, but you will have a unique insight into foreign cultures and traditions, which will make your contribution in an international company particularly valuable.

We’re in a global society where businesses increasingly work across borders so employers are interested in language skills. The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) recently reported in their Education and Skills Survey that 72 per cent of businesses value languages with 52 per cent recruiting staff with these skills. Thus, your language skills will make a difference not only on personal level, but also in your future career.
